The game was on WGN??? ::bangs head against wall:: I thought ESPN had a black out on all the games that started on Sunday night after 6pm so when I saw the Cubs weren't on the game of the week, I didn't check any farther. I can't believe I missed the game of the year (so far) because of a misconception. Definitely looking for a wall to bang my head against.

Mark,

I won't mind if the Dodgers go instead of the Diamondbacks. I haven't been thrilled with that team since they got rid of Bob Brenley as the manger, let Steve Finley and others go, and changed their uniforms to those hideous red things. :-)

I'm a little worried about Boston/Tampa Bay now. I really would like to see the Rays win the division, but the Sox are breathing down their neck and kicked their butts today. Or at least they are at the moment.

AL Central might be interesting--if the Twins don't choke. :-)

Hi Jane,

After 100 years without a World Series win, I sure hope the Cubs time has come. There's been some pretty rough seasons scattered throughout the century. ;-)

I'm not sure that the Rays won't choke down the stretch--they're such a young team--but the Red Sox haven't managed to close the gap to less than 4.5 games back for a while now, and it's already the end of August. Barring a total collapse, I think the Rays are going to do it. And it is hard not to cheer for them--although when they were playing my Cubs (and sweeping them in Tampa Bay) it was a little easier.

Actually, no, I live in Minneapolis, but I have the MLB package from my cable company so I can watch whatever game I want to and as much baseball as I like. I think the Dodgers were playing the Cubs and the feed was from LA and Vin Scully. He hooked me. :-) Now I watch the Dodger games just to listen to him. The man is a wonder!

If you check under the comments for my rip on Hank Steinbrenner and the DH and the comment he made about doing away with it in baseball all together, you'll find Mark's name. He just showed up and commented on my blog and said he'd add me to the authors' links. I didn't do anything myself, but there must be contact information for him somewhere.

Thanks for stopping by--even if you do like the hated Yankees. :-)

Hi, Patti.

Don't kill me - I'm a diehard Yankee fan - but I think the Cubs could win the series this year. It just feels like their time has finally come. And I'll be thrilled if they beat the Angels or Red Sox. The Rays? They're hard to hate. They've got great young players and a terrific manager, and they've exceeded even their own expectations. But can a rotation of Kazmir, Garza, Shields and Sonnanstine get it done down the stretch? No clue.

Btw, I'm a fellow author. I just joined the MLB blogging community yesterday. Book deadlines are a bitch, aren't they? Do you live in LA? (You mentioned listening to Vin doing Dodgers games.) I'm up in Santa Barbara.

Oh- one last question. How do I go about getting on the "Book Authors" link?

Jane

I like Len and Bob actually. I could barely tolerate Chip Caray--not with the Cubs and not with Atlanta either--so not listening to him is a treat. :-) I did like Steve Stone.

I think as Len and Bob have gotten to know the team and watch them every day, they've become fans. It's hard to keep watching a team and not start rooting for them. It's how I got hooked on the Braves. There were hardly any games on WGN any more and I had to watch some game. Before the season was out, I was cheering on Atlanta--unless they were playing my beloved Chicago Cubs. :-)

You're right, the Cubs do have a few more years left in them, but the ownership question being up in the air makes me nervous. I'd like to see someone buy the Cubs who appreciates the history of the team and who wants to spend the money it takes to win--not just make a profit and sell for even more later.

I still want them to win the World Series this year. I'm still broken hearted over the Padres in what? 1984? 1983? I thought we were going that year.

You're right. Len and Bob are nothing compared to Chip and Steve (or Harry and Steve), but Bob is funny, and he shares his interesting thoughts on the game as well. My only problem I had with them was that they definitely were not Cubs fans (not their fault), and they weren't really that excited when the Cubs won. They've fixed that. They are a good 1-2 combo ( and not obnoxious like the southsiders).
